What I Watched November and December 2017

It’s been a big couple of months for tv and movies! I watch a lot of tv when I’m working and I’ve worked a lot these last two months! I’ve also seen way more movies than I’m used to watching. It’s so exciting in late fall when most of my favorites are back on the air and we’re never digging around to try and find something to watch, whether we actually care about it or not. There’s always something good on!

TV – Alone

Scandal

Scandal

Things are pretty weird on Scandal with Olivia acting as Command this season. It’s a little dark, but it always is. It’s not one of my favorite shows, but I do enjoy building up a bunch of them to binge. It’s still an interesting show.

The Good Doctor

The Good Doctor

I’ve heard a lot of negative feedback for this show because of how emotionally manipulative it is. But – I love it! It’s definitely my favorite new show this season.

The Mindy Project

The Mindy Project

I was really unhappy with this final season. It felt like Mindy didn’t care at all with keeping her character genuine. It really seemed like she was just trying to get through it and be done. I’m happy that she ended up with Danny, but it also felt completely unrealistic and dumb. He’s gone for however many seasons and suddenly turns up and they are magically back in love? I couldn’t stop wondering how much he was being paid to come back for the finale. I’m glad this is over.

The Mayor

The Mayor

I like this! It’s nice to have something light hearted and funny in the middle of a bunch of heavier shows. Courtney and his friends are very entertaining.

Jane the Virgin

Jane the Virgin

I’m always up and down on with Jane. For starters, it’s a really annoying show to watch because so much of it is in Spanish and I constantly have to be reading subtitles. (I hate subtitles, but especially when I’m trying to look down at my sewing all the time!) I hate all the narration too. But Jane is so good and positive that I can’t help liking her. I’m just not sure I’ll ever forgive them for killing off Michael. No one will compare.

Life in Pieces

Life in Pieces

Such a delightful comedy! I adore this show. The latest Christmas episode with Greg rocking out to Trans Siberian Orchestra in his car?? SO funny.

Fuller House

Fuller House

A few months late, I watched the first half of season three. I still think half of it is pretty corny. But I’m never going to stop watching!

Last Man on Earth

The Last Man on Earth

Ugh, is this show over yet?? I can’t stop watching it. But I wish it were done. Also, when in the world did Gail and Erica fall in love? I feel like I totally missed something somewhere. They were just suddenly a couple and getting married. It confused me.

Anne with an E

Anne with an E

I watched this right before Christmas and it was perfect timing. I’m sure if I knew Anne in person she’d drive me insane with all that talking. But the show was really well done. I especially loved the casting for Matthew and Marilla.

Shameless

Shameless

It’s back! I think Shameless is one of the best tv shows ever. It’s so gritty and violent and way too sexual, but it also has so much heart. Lip remains my favorite character and so much of this new season revolves around him getting his life back together – again. Love this show.

Great British Baking Show

Great British Baking Show – Season 3

I needed something in my remaining work week before Christmas. This was perfect! I’m not quite done with it, but season three is definitely my favorite. All the contestants are just so lovely!

TV – Together

Stranger Things

Stranger Things

Should I even admit that even though it’s been out for two months, we’ve only watched the first episode of season 2 of Stranger Things? I wish it were released earlier in October so we could have watched when it felt seasonally appropriate. A couple of times this month Greg was about to turn it on and I said I didn’t want to watch something Halloweenish during Christmastime. We’ll get to it sometime. I’m sure most of our regular shows will be on a winter hiatus soon.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Wow, what a downer this season!!! It’s hard to watch. I think things are starting to turn around, but they really lost my attention with the first few episodes. I want funny back. I really want GREG back. But my Greg insists that will never happen. 🙁

The Flash

The Flash

I think I’m getting pretty tired of superhero shows. We were on such a kick with them for so long and now they feel pretty lame. Flash is the only one I still like. But it’s not a favorite.

Arrow

Arrow

I think I’m done with Arrow. We only watched one episode in the last two months because it was a big crossover between Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow. I just hate how everything is always so serious and depressing. I’m over it.

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Curb Your Enthusiasm

I loved this new season sooooooo much. I can’t even tell you how hard I laughed at some of the episodes. When we watched these originally, however many years ago, I tolerated it for Greg’s sake. But it felt so much funnier now that they’re back. Watch this for some great laughs.

Good Behavior

Good Behavior

This is also turning into one of my favorites! We were so/so on the first season, but I’m really into it now. I don’t think it’s supposed to be funny, but there are so many funny little moments. And Javier, come on. It’s worth watching just to stare at him for an hour.

Superstore

Superstore

I don’t think this has been on very regularly yet this season. But it’s always good for a lot of laughs.

Brooklyn Nine Nine

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

A tried and true favorite.

Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad

We’re still very slowly making our way through this. I like it, but I’m not joining the ranks of people who insist it’s the greatest show ever. I’d still rank Shameless a lot higher. But we’ll see where it goes.

Movies

Band Aid

Band Aid

I really wanted to see this after listening to the Sam Jones podcast when he interviewed Zoe Lister-Jones. She wrote, produced, and acted in this film with an all female crew, which has never been done before. The movie is about marriage and a couple that decides to put their fights to music. It was interesting, but also a little sad and depressing. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I could have actually  understood the words they were singing. Maybe there’s something wrong with my hearing, but I could barely make out any actual lyrics, which really bothered me!

A Christmas Prince

A Christmas Prince

I’m not really one for corny Christmas movies. I don’t usually watch many – if any – Christmas movies. The Holiday and Elf  are my usual standbys, but I didn’t even watch those this year. But when I saw this one on netflix I had to check it out. iZombie is one of my favorite shows, so I had to support Rose McIver in this little netflix Christmas movie. And I liked it! Still a bit corny, but also sweet and fun.

Lady Bird

Lady Bird

We saw this in the theater soon after it came out. While it seems like very little actually happens in the movie, we both greatly enjoyed it.

The Last Jedi

The Last Jedi

I’m not much of a Star Wars fanatic, but I’m game for seeing the new ones when everyone I know is going. And I actually really liked this one! Even though it felt like half the movie I was just staring into the watery eyes of Kylo Ren or Rey.

Pitch Perfect 3

Pitch Perfect 3

Three times at the theater in a month! I really liked this one too! I mean, it’s not an amazing movie, but I liked it. I think I liked it better than the second one. But not as much as the first, of course. I love the boy singers. No boy singers allowed this time!

Dunkirk

Dunkirk

I guess I sort of knew what I was getting into watching this, but I wasn’t prepared for how hard it was going to be to stay awake. A good movie, technically speaking – sure. But I really need a whole lot more dialog and interaction to keep my attention. I’m glad I saw it, but it wasn’t for me.

And that’s it! I’m sure we’ll watch a few more movies in the next couple of days, but they’ll be added next month. Any good tv recommendations for me in the meantime??
